In June, Albania registered lower inflation than the average of the European Union countries , but the softening trend of prices slowed down in the group of food and fruits and vegetables compared to the EU.
INSTAT data showed that in June inflation in Albania stopped at 4.5 percent, with a decrease of only 0.2 percent, while in the European Union , inflation was 5.5 percent from 6.1 percent in May.
In the EU, the strong fall in inflation is justified by the decrease in demand for energy from the markets and their stabilization, while in Albania the main source of inflation is food and alcoholic beverages.
According to INSTAT data , annual inflation in the food group was slightly higher than 10 percent, while Eurostat data shows that annual inflation in the same group was around 15 percent.
However, Albanians are penalized by the fact that they spend over 40 percent of their monthly budgets on food, at a time when in EU countries this figure is around 13 percent .
