The "Ford" factory in the German city of Cologne is taking "Ford Fiesta" cars off the production line, the automobile manufacturing company announced today.

Since 1976, about 20 million Fiesta vehicles have been built worldwide, almost half of them in Germany, first in Saarlouis near the French border, then for several decades in Cologne.

"This is a decisive event for "Ford". The old "Ford" model is leaving Europe and a new electric "Ford" is coming", said the expert of the vehicle manufacturing industry, Ferdinand Dudenhoffer.

Ford is currently in the process of investing almost two billion euros ($2.18 billion) in its factory in Cologne to produce new models of electric cars.

The first "Ford" electric car will be presented at the end of the year.

"The "Ford Fiesta" vehicle was mainly popular in Southern European countries, such as Italy and Greece.

"Fiesta" sales peaked in the early 1990s, after which its success began to gradually fade," said Dudenhoffer.

"If "Ford" will be successful with future car models, as it was with "Fiesta", the transition to electric cars will be a great achievement for the company", he emphasized.
