The residents of Tirana district are the ones who have received a record number of loans from second level banks, but also from non-bank financial institutions in the first half of the year. Since Tirana region has the largest number of population and businesses, it is expected that there will be a larger number of loan applications.

But, from the official data of the Bank of Albania, it can be observed that compared to the balance of the first quarter and compared to other regions of the country, Tirana has had the highest growth with almost 4.7% of loans received by citizens and businesses.

Undoubtedly, the increase in living costs has also increased the expenses of Albanian families, often directing them to take loans from banks or microcredit institutions. Specifically, the value of the loan received in the region of Tirana reached 597 billion ALL at the end of the second quarter, from 570 billion in the previous period.

Despite the fact that Fieri and Elbasan are the two largest counties after Tirana in terms of population, Durrës and Vlorë residents received more loans than them in the first half of the year.

Bank of Albania statistics show that 76.3% of the total loan is concentrated in Tirana, followed by Durrës and Vlora with 6% and 2.2%, respectively.

Meanwhile, other smaller counties of the country such as Kukësi, Dibra, Berati, Gjirokastra, together constitute only 7.8% of the total loan, or 61 billion ALL in total.
