How will the new car insurance formula be applied? Calculation of 7 risk factors

From January 1, 2025, drivers in the country will face a new formula for calculating the mandatory motor insurance premium, where for some the price will be lower and for some it will increase. During the hearing in the parliamentary Committee of Economy and Finance, the Executive Director of the Financial Supervision Authority presented the recently approved regulation. She explained that the premium will be calculated based on 7 elements of risk, such as the age of the driver, the age of the car, the history of damages, engine power, etc.

"There will be an interweaving between the characteristics of the vehicle and the driver, but if you leave the car to someone else, the malus goes not only to the driver of the vehicle but also to the owner of the vehicle. A damage occurred during the last year, will have an effect only for the next year. As for those who cause 2-3 damages, then they will be penalized more".

The head of the AMF emphasized that there is all the appropriate database of damage history in order to make an accurate calculation.

"The AMF has a register where every damage that goes to the companies comes to us and we had all the necessary data to make this regulation."

The head of the Economy Commission has recommended that measures should be taken to ensure that this regulation is properly implemented and that there are no abuses.

"Take measures and make checks so that citizens are clear on January 1, 2025. Your role should be more active and that the good intention of this scheme is associated with success. As careful as possible with the application".

The new regulation aims to apply a fair premium price to every driver, minimizing road accidents, raising awareness and encouraging them to use vehicles with lower engine power.
