The works for the expansion of the Tirana-Durres highway have started. This ambitious project is expected to cost 34 million euros and aims to unblock one of the main transport arteries in the country.
The works will extend over a six-kilometer segment, from the Kamza bend to the Kashari junction. The extension will include the addition of three inbound lanes and three outbound lanes, reducing the traffic pressure that often occurs on this road, particularly during the summer months when traffic peaks at 90,000 to 130,000 vehicles per day.
The project is expected to be completed within the next two years. During this period, the highway is not expected to be blocked, but there will be speed limits, in order to maintain the safety of the construction and travelers. Currently, the permitted speed in this segment is up to 90 kilometers per hour, a restriction that will increase to 130 kilometers per hour after the expansion is completed.
Part of this project is the relocation of existing plants from the background of the highway to the artificial lake park.
