More than half of the Albanian families with bank loans reported difficulties in repaying them in the second half of last year.

According to the Bank of Albania's report on the financial stability of the second half of 2022, 53 percent of families with a bank loan, either consumer or mortgage, reported a decrease in their ability to pay.

The Bank's report contradicts this institution's own data, according to which, until the end of last year, bad loans continued to decrease, although at a slower pace than the rest of the year.

However, the Bank implies with prudent financial language that in the first half of this year there may be a reversal of the situation. According to the Bank, the price crisis has hit the solvency of families.

In the second half of last year, the increase in prices culminated with the official level of inflation reaching 8 percent. Currently, according to INSTAT, inflation has fallen to 5 percent, while the bank's intervention through the increase of interest rates from 0.5 to 3 percent within one year have made both new loans and existing loans more expensive for families and businesses.

Currently, according to official data, inflation is slightly more than 5 percent, however it is above the target set by the Bank of Albania, of 3 percent. The bank and international institutions predict that inflation will return to this limit in the first half of next year. /VoxNews
