Government seeks external consultancy for railways

The Albanian government is looking for an external consultant for support in the implementation of European Union legislation in the railway sector.

According to the open tender on the public procurement website of the European Union, the objective of the contract is to contribute and provide support to the Albanian railway sector to align Albania's policies and legislation with the EU acquis.

Also, it is aimed to build administrative capacities to implement the sectoral policies and the approved legislation in a complete and effective way through support in 2 main areas. The first area includes prioritization and the drafting of the railway legal framework, in accordance with the EU acquis.

Meanwhile, the second area includes the improvement and strengthening of the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and other Albanian railway authorities, through capacity building activities, with a special focus on the alignment and implementation of the EU acquis.

The consultancy is expected to cost 700,000 euros, while the opening of this tender comes at a time when several railway projects in the country have advanced in terms of construction or securing financing for the start of the rehabilitation of existing lines.
