The Association of Bread, Pastry and Dough Producers demands that the government take preventive fiscal measures so that the chain of bakery bankruptcies that is happening in Europe does not happen in Albania as well.
The President of the Association, Gëzim Peshkopia, told "Monitor" that the collapse of Europe's energy supply and the increase in the prices of bread ingredients and dough products, such as flour, margarine, oil, etc. from which Albania is supplied, are waves of the crisis that have also came to Albania.
In order to prevent the impact of the crisis from Europe and the risk of closing the ovens, Peshkopia recommends that the Albanian government should also consider the requests for reduction of VAT, taxes or other fees related to the production of food products, as well as the furnaces in Europe have requested.
Rising prices of raw materials and energy are the main concerns of bread producers in Europe.
For this reason, the European Confederation of National Organizations of Bakeries and Confectioneries (CEBP), which also includes the Albanian manufacturers' association, in a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, raises the concern that the Russia-Ukraine war has increased production costs.
Producers in Europe warn that the increase in costs will increase even more the closing of the ovens and for this reason they demand that food companies make temporary interventions in VAT, taxes or other fees.
Concerns and demands of the European bakery confederation (CEBP) for the EC
In the letter sent to EC President Ursula Von der Leyen, European producers state that the prices of flour, energy, transport and most of the raw materials, supplies and services essential to making bread are experiencing dramatic increases that lead us, micro, small and medium-sized bakeries and patisseries in a critical situation. They point out that these companies had already encountered great difficulties during the pandemic, when the supply of bread was never interrupted.
And while our craft and traditional bakeries are doing everything possible to mitigate the impact on consumers and continue to produce, CEBP sees with great concern the growing number of those forced to close./Monitor
