Water companies have slightly improved the energy efficiency indicator, reducing water supply costs. According to official data from the Water Regulatory Authority, during 2023 this indicator resulted in 0.5 kWh/m³, from 0.65 kWh/m³ which was this indicator a year ago. This is the first time that the energy efficiency trend is reported, since this performance indicator was added a year ago.
Energy costs are a concern for water supply and sewerage companies, arising as a result of physical losses, but also the quality of the pumps used by them.
For this reason, earlier studies of the Water Regulatory Body show the need to increase the efficiency of the use of electricity by UK companies, as well as other ways to reduce the amount of electricity used by reducing water production, reducing physical losses.
In fact, the Entity in the analysis of the proposals for tariffs of the UK companies close to it pays the main attention to the indicator of losses and in the final decision to approve the tariffs it sets concrete objectives for the company for its reduction.
Also, ERRU analyzes the technical condition of the pumps used in the water supply and KUN systems, their age as a very important element of the yield and consumption of electricity. Meanwhile, in the recommendations of the final decision on tariffs, it emphasizes the necessity of drawing up plans by UK companies to increase the efficiency of the energy used by them.
