Germany in search of foreign labor. What are the proposed tax breaks?

Medical staff, workers and waiters in restaurants. Germany is seeking foreign aid to deal with a severe labor shortage.

The government proposes tax breaks of 10 to 30% in the first three years, with the aim of attracting workers from abroad. Authorities believe Indian workers can fill the void.

But the government's proposal has caused reactions. Trade unions and opposition parties oppose the plans in question.

The Christian Democratic Union supports that taxes should be reduced for all workers. Some MPs believe this could lead to polarization and divide locals and foreigners. It can also fuel extremism.

Some European countries offer tax incentives to foreigners to fill jobs that require expertise.

Portugal confirmed in July that it would reactivate a program that cuts taxes for foreigners working in some in-demand professions, such as teachers.

Sweden gives tax breaks to people with high incomes or who are considered experts in a field.

In Denmark, foreign scientists and researchers have a tax rate of around 33%, while citizens pay over 50%.

On an annual basis, Germany aims to attract 400,000 skilled workers to address the labor shortage.
