Beware of poultry meat that comes from Brazil. Measures are taken against the

Albania has taken measures to protect Albanian consumers from the risk of bird disease in Brazil. Through a special order, the Ministry of Agriculture has decided to stop the import and transit of live poultry to the territory of the Republic of Albania; 24 hour birds; of fresh meat from the state of Brazil due to the bird pesudopest disease that has affected this state.

It is also prohibited to import the biological material of birds not accompanied by a PCR diagnostic test, which proves the absence of the virus; eggs and poultry egg products, where the destruction of the pseudoplague virus has not been ensured; non-thermally treated poultry meat products.

According to the order, the import of these products is allowed only from areas and compartments of the state of Brazil, which have not had a notification of the disease of pseudoplague of birds for the last 12 months. The veterinary certificate must guarantee the origin of the incoming cargo and the competent institutions must be vigilant to monitor this situation.

Pseudopest disease is considered acute for poultry and highly contagious, resulting in high infection rates.

Referring to official data from INSTAT, in June of the current year we imported 268.4 million ALL of live animals from Brazil, including all categories. While in the period January - June of this year, the value of the import of live animals from Brazil reached 1.4 billion ALL.

During 2023, Albania imported meat from Brazil worth 2.8 billion ALL, with an amount of nearly 12.5 thousand tons.

The data confirm Brazil as Albania's main partner in terms of importing meat products.
