Harmful gases, businesses must be licensed to import refrigerators and air

Entrepreneurs who import, export, store, put on the market or maintain equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases will have to be licensed to exercise the activity. The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has issued for public consultation the draft decision, which defines the necessary documentation for the licensed equipment of these entrepreneurs, who will have additional obligations in terms of reporting on the equipment they bring into the Albanian territory.

Fluorinated gases are gases with a greenhouse effect and have a high negative impact on global warming, as Albania is committed to reducing them. These gases are mainly used in the cooling circuits of refrigerators, air conditioning equipment, heat pumps and fire protection systems.

According to the accompanying report of the draft decision, only registered entrepreneurs will be able to import gases or equipment that works with these gases through equipment with a special license.

This will help the ministry responsible for the environment, the customs authorities or the inspectorate responsible for the environment to monitor the imported amount of fluorinated gases or equipment that works with these gases, according to the annual quota, as well as track the amount distributed in the domestic market.

Also, the special licensing is expected to affect the ban on the import of equipment, which is taken out of the European Union market, which our country often hosts.

According to the law approved last year, an annual quota will have to be determined for the quantity allowed to be imported of these devices, while fines are also foreseen, in case of violation of the obligations.
