The level of prices in the country has marked a slight decrease in the month of August this year according to the data of the "Institute of Statistics". Thus, the Consumer Price Index is estimated at 2%, while in August of the previous year it was 4%. So, in the span of a year, we have a level almost twice as low. We remind you that in July the inflation rate was estimated at 2.1%. The monthly change of the consumer price index in August 2024 compared to July 2024 is 0.5%. Since April of this year, we see that inflation has fluctuated between the level of 2% and 2.2%.

The annual price increase in August was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with 0.86 percentage points, followed by the group "Rent, water, fuel and energy" with 0.29 percentage points.

If we analyze the annual change by groups, the data show that compared to the month of August 2023, the biggest increase in prices is observed in the group "Entertainment and culture" with 4.0%, followed by the groups "Clothing and shoes" with 3.9%, "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco" with 3.6% and "Furniture, home appliances and home maintenance" with 3.5%.

Let's focus the analysis on the food group, since this group had the biggest impact on the 2% increase in prices. According to the figures analyzed by "Scan Intel", we see that it is greens and potatoes that have recorded the greatest annual growth with 5.5%. Next in line is dairy with an increase of 4.4%, followed by fish and meat with 4.2% and 3.1%. If we refer only to the food group, we see that the price level for the fruit sub-group is the lowest in August, by 4.5%.

On the other hand, if we talk about the main groups, we see that "Educational service" increased by 2.2%, "Miscellaneous goods and services" by 2.1%, "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" by 1.8%, "Rent, water, materials fuels and energy" with 1.5%, "Health" with 1.4% and "Communication" with 0.6%. On the other hand, the prices of the "Transporti" group decreased by 3.1%.
