This year's tourist season was more propaganda than reality. This is what Shkëlqim Tuzi, the tour guide's companion, told Dita Jonë, according to which in the region of Shkodra where he operates, people have been disappointed compared to expectations.
"Tourist groups are, yes, it's not the big boom that we've been waiting for years, we've had more, this year something less was done as propaganda and people prepared by making investments as well. In Shkodër, they were disappointed in terms of expectations".
According to him, Polish tourists are the ones who have remained the most loyal, while heavy traffic remains a concern.
"I work with the Polish market. Poles are loyal to Albania and come again. They remain disappointed. We are more concerned about the traffic which is a big waste of time. I did the old Shkodër-Tirana road, because we don't have the opportunity. If you waste your time, you waste your program. I spend a lot of time on the bus. Muriqani has worked perfectly on both sides of the border".
For the head of Hoteleri Turism association Zak Topuzi, the disappointment lies in the figures published by the government, as not all foreigners who have entered the country are tourists.
"More was expected with bigger moves. It was not what was expected. The first 4 months have seen larger movements, INSTAT talks about foreign movements, the government translates them into tourists, but they are not tourists. Returning the airport of Rinas to the region, it turned it into a strategic point. Low prices allowed them to move. The visa waiver enabled Kosovo and it became difficult to determine who was the real tourist. There were shortages on the coastline mainly in June and July. In general, there should be 10% more tourists, but they are distributed in the cities and the coast less".
Topuzi emphasized that Albania has the cheapest prices in the region, but the tempting offers of Greece absorbed middle-class tourists.
"We are the country with the lowest prices in hotels and tourism. This is related to quality, service Albania is sold as a package. Behind us is Turkey for the cheap prices and out of the 6 Balkan countries we are the last. In terms of prices, Montenegro and Macedonia also surpass us. Kosovo receives more income from tourists per year. We had announced that Albania would miss Kosovo to explore new markets. Second, the Kosovo-Serbia-Macedonia road improvements and Greece's moves to make tempting offers managed to absorb the market of middle class tourists from Albania and Kosovo".
For the entrepreneur Rrapushi, the problem is service and quality.
"First in my choice is the service, if we go to the hotel what makes the difference between Albania and other countries is the service. It's not just the increase in prices."
Vlora and Durrës this year remained at the same levels as last year. Journalists Elitjona Doko and Jerola Ziaj said on A2 that tourism this year was not at the expected levels. A2 Television
