Many areas of the country continue to flood this Wednesday. The severe meteorological situation started last week and is expected to continue in the following days. And what happens is repeated every season.

Will this situation ever end, or in milder terms will there be a minimization of flooding? The answer is NO.

The leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture state that there are not enough funds to make a colossal intervention that would avoid floods throughout the country, which every autumn-winter season cause great economic damage to agricultural lands, livestock, businesses, etc.

During the presentation of the 2024 draft budget for the agricultural sector, Minister Anila Denaj emphasized that the entire bill was calculated at 700 million dollars.

"If we intervened today, 700 million dollars would be needed to prevent floods, to put the whole situation on track, to intervene in reservoirs, dams, canals, etc. We have no funds to prevent and the only option is an emergency. The damage that comes from the areas that were hit by the hail is 200 million lek for Korçë, Berat, Elbasan district".

The Ministry of Agriculture foresees the intervention in 4 new projects for the prevention of floods during the next year, while there are 16 more in progress, which will also be financed during 2024.

While for flood protection facilities during the year 2024, an investment of 238 million ALL is foreseen.
