Audi stops exports to the US

Due to new US customs tariffs, car manufacturer Audi is temporarily stopping the export and delivery of cars to the US.

Unlike many other German automakers, Audi does not have its own factories in the U.S. All Audi vehicles for the American market are shipped to the U.S. from Germany and several other countries.

Now Audi has stopped all deliveries to the US. The reason is the customs tariffs imposed last week on the whole world by US President Donald Trump.

According to a report by the Automobilwoche portal, Audi's decision applies to all vehicles ordered in the US after April 2. Audi brand vehicles that have arrived in the US before this date will be delivered to customers as planned.

The Automobilwoche portal refers to an internal letter addressed to car retailers in the US. This has now been confirmed by an Audi spokeswoman.

New trading strategies

Audi ships its vehicles to the U.S. from Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia. The Q5 model – which is a bestseller in the U.S. – is also manufactured in Mexico.

Audi has more than 37,000 cars in stock in the US.

Audi currently has more than 37,000 Audi cars in its US warehouses. These vehicles are not affected by the new tariffs. For this reason, they will be given a special note when they are sold.

The Audi company is now considering how to provide retailers with new opportunities and impulses for selling Audi cars that are in stock in the US.

The company is also analyzing ways to minimize the impact of new customs tariffs on customers and trading partners./ DW
