Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a post on Facebook, announced that the application of Vlora International Airport to the International Air Transport Association has been assessed by the latter as an application with international standards.

It is further explained that IATA has set the code for airports and ticket sales: VLO.

"IATA (International Air Transport Association) has assessed the application of Vlora International Airport in accordance with international standards and has assigned it the airport and ticketing code: VLO," Rama writes.

Works at this airport are nearing completion, while the government announced a few days ago that "Air Albania" will make its inaugural flight in the first days of May, touching down on the largest runway in the Balkans, 3.2 kilometers long.

This airport will be the gateway to Southern Albania and the gateway to tourism development. It will operate with 3 business models: civil aviation, aircraft maintenance and a full-fledged cargo and will extend over a 22 thousand square meter terminal.

According to the Albanian Tourist Union, this summer season this airport will operate only for charter planes with tourists. And based on the contracts that have been signed, the first plane with tourists is expected to land on June 8. Meanwhile, according to the preliminary contracts that have been signed with the tourist agency, at least 4 charter planes will land at Vlora Airport during a week.
