Have you ever been to Butrint? No one can properly enjoy it unless they know its history. Since its foundation, Butrint owes itself to the work of Virgil, who immortalized it in his poem entitled, Aeneid.
Aeneas, the exiled hero from Troy, stopped for some time in this place on his way to Rome. And a spark in the mind of the hero who founded Rome was enough for Butrint to enter the world map.
From here we have the same Butrint today.
Parku Kombëtar i Butrintit.
That the women of the family were involved in these activities is clear from a simple look at the historical records. Their names appear in contemporary articles and newspapers. But they remain silent and their stories untold.
They are a footnote to the story of Jewish survival since the c. 18th, another woman of theirs would describe, the Rothschild women's battle for power.
But what fascinating footnotes must they be?
I am telling you only one which begins with an exception; the will of the bank's founder, Majer Amshel Rothschild, expressly forbade female descendants to share in the bank's assets or decision-making processes.
How intriguing must this story have been?
C. Dickens's novel Dombi and Son came to mind.
Dombi, a grim titan of London's financial world, was obsessed with the boy all his life, but in the end he discovers that it was the girl who mattered and through whom the family line would have to continue. And so in the end, "Dombi and Son" ... a girl really comes out. This is the story of the Rothschild women explained more simply, a story that is almost completely unknown.

In Albania, the Rothschilds became known for the archaeological research in Butrint and are still present there. While in communism they were a symbol of the international bourgeoisie.
The Butrint Foundation they founded made it possible to rebuild the museum in 2005. Those who were close to the group at the time say it was a labor of love. For this reason, it is still considered today as the best museum in Albania.
Paying homage to the unparalleled history that Butrint bears, in text, photographs, reconstructions or even in statues and small objects, it continues to convey the echo of how tourists, foreign and local, including brides, see that miracle every year gods.
How, you say.
A glorious blend of Mediterranean history, a seemingly eternal landscape between the Ionian Sea and the Epirote mountains, with eyes fixed deep ... on Lake Butrint.
