Will the Serbs cause a world war again?
Images from yesterday's clashes in the north of Kosovo

When Gavrilo Princip fired the gun in Sarajevo, no one thought that the world would go to war for a herdsman state imbued with nationalist ideas in the mountains of the Balkans. More so when the kings and emperors of the powers that were then slaughtered in the trenches of war were cousins.

In fact, it was something beyond kinship: financial and geopolitical interests were intertwined beneath the shiny names.

Now the world is a bit more complicated and the interests of many factors are at play.

As then, a cobweb has begun to fill in the Balkans. This time not in Sarajevo, but in Mitrovica. Of course there is no longer an Austrian prince to kill, but the cause is as great as a prince's life. Fifty thousand Serbs in the north of Kosovo have brought Serbia and Kosovo into a dead end. Of course, they do it by order from Belgrade.

Belgrade itself is enmeshed in the rule of Aleksandar Vucic, immersed in a corrupt and criminalized government. But this is not a new thing in Belgrade of the last forty years where politics, crime and economy coexist and interact.

The news is that Putin needs a second front in Europe. Stuck in the mud of Ukraine, it needs the attention and forces of the West. And for this it puts pressure on Vučić, pressures which are not at all to be taken lightly since Russia has a large intelligence and military provision in Serbia.

Meanwhile, Albin Kurti has provoked the Serbs by wanting to place his elected mayors in municipalities with a Serbian majority. Some say it is his constitutional right. In fact, what Kurti does is justified by the extension of Pristina's authority throughout the republic. The Serbian enclaves are nothing less than a source of instability, because they don't even want to know about the Kosovo government, but only about Belgrade's orders. In this situation, Kosovo can be called a territory, but not a state. And Kurti thought of throwing the dice. Only this all has a problem: Is Kurti in unison with the Americans? If not with the State Department, is it with the intelligence agencies?

If we refer to history, in the years '97-'98, the State Department classified the KLA as a terrorist organization. Meanwhile, the CIA had other ideas. In the White House, the CIA variant won and the outcome is known.

Today, the Balkans have two states where the Serbian minority serves as a delayed explosive for Belgrade's expansionist ambitions. They are the result of hasty compromise solutions of the years '95-'99. But if Bosnia is a mishmash, Kosovo is a different case as far as the uniformity of the population is concerned. There are two million Albanians with fifty thousand Serbs on the ground, who cannot have the same rights as Republika Srpska in Bosnia.

And coming to Kurt's initiative, the puzzle is whether one of Washington's powerful agencies (Europe does not weigh at all in Kosovo), has given him the opportunity to bring Kosovo under control and are we witnessing a plan aimed at narrowing Serbia, which with the dual role, has tired the American patience?

Maybe it has the CIA's approval or DASH's tacit approval, despite Blinken's statement, as many words are bluff.

If so, and he probably has, as long as he says we have the approval of allies, then he is on the right track. On the contrary, it is taking Kosovo by the neck.
