The leaders of the Albania-Kosovo states today in Vlore

The joint meeting of the two parliaments in Tirana and the continuation of the celebrations in Vlora, between the leaders of Albania and Kosovo, are valid to give solemnity to the national holiday of the Albanians. Beyond the solemnity and national emotions, the protocol of the joint celebrations should clearly demonstrate that the safe future of the Albanians does not depend so much on the alliance with each other, but on the ability of both parties to have pro-Western leadership in Tirana and Pristina.

The national security of Albanians today is not the formal Tirana-Pristina alliance, but the alliance of Tirana and Pristina with the West.

Put more clearly, Albania's national security as a NATO country is based on being a democratic state, with free elections and integrated into European institutions. This is not just a slogan. This is a path dictated by the historical developments of Albania after 1990 and by the certainty that Albania has as a democratic country that is a member of European institutions.

Albania's "danger" is an anti-Western leadership, an autocratic leadership, and above all a deviation from the democratic path, which encourages political leaders to find other alliances, besides the West.

History has shown that Albania's 50-year isolation led it to atypical alliances with Belgrade, Russia and China and lost Albania the perspective of a European country, finding it in 1900, a country without economic power, without human dignity and above all with a class hatred that brought about the need for national reconciliation.

History has also shown how many times our leaders risk power, turn their eyes to the darkness. In 1997, Sali Berisha, faced with the crisis of relations with the USA and popular protests, began to think about an alliance with the political Islam of the East, while today, faced with Western isolation, he is trying to provoke a new geopolitical orientation of Albania, which it no longer has ties to the US and Western Europe.

This is the case when national security is endangered by the political leadership of a country.

The same problem is in Kosovo. Those who were killed for the freedom of Kosovo and those who paved the way for its independence, succeeded because they put the human freedoms guaranteed by the democratic system of the West at the foundation of their project. And they won that battle on behalf of the West.

Any attempt to create a strong and authoritarian leader in Kosovo, which ignores the West and its democratic standards, including the positive discrimination of minorities in Kosovo, is actually an attempt against the national security of Albanians.

The freedom of Albanians is guaranteed only as freedom that comes from the West. The illusion that ethnic freedoms bring human freedom is false. Ethnic freedoms are often dirty traps of dictatorships in the name of the nation. The only freedom that equalizes citizens regardless of religion and ethnicity is the freedom that comes from the West.

Therefore, the Albanian societies in Tirana and Pristina are "condemned" to be democratic and pro-Western. Albanians cannot manage to create discriminatory states for their own citizens or minorities within them, as they lose the model that guarantees their national security. Albanian societies are safe and united only as free societies.

Therefore, November 28 is a day to remind us that our enemies are not only those who conquer us but also those who rule us. Do not allow them to be anti-Western and anti-democratic, as such they are simply anti-Albanian.
