Genc Tafili was extradited from Germany to our country. He was arrested in January this year by German police, after being declared internationally wanted for the murder of Shkodra Chief of Police, Arben Zylyftari.
The latter was killed in 2000, after an exchange of fire with two brothers Admir and Genc Tafili, while on duty while conducting an operation against two wanted persons.
Sources suggest that Genc Tafili was sent to Fier prison. Genc Tafili's lawyer, Sokol Koçiu stated that Tafili accepted the extradition and said that within a few days they will submit the request for parole according to law.
"He has accepted the extradition, in a few days we will submit the request for parole according to the law", he declared for the Panorama newspaper.
Who is Genc Tafili and his family history?
It all started on August 2, 2000. Bahri Tafili, Genc Tafili's father, was declared wanted on suspicion of being the perpetrator of Gëzim Geci's murder, following a property dispute.
At that time, the Chief of Crimes in the Shkodra Police, Prele Pjetrushi, and several other officers were conducting a routine check, when they noticed that Bahri Tafili ran away and locked himself in the apartment.
Attempts to arrest him immediately began, but Tafili and his son Genci fired at the police force.
In such conditions, the Chief of Police Pjetrushi asked for reinforcements and the Director of the Shkodra Police, Arben Zylyftari, is put in charge of the Rapid Intervention Forces.
After a few minutes of bullets, the Director of Shkodra Police, Arben Zylyftari, received a bullet in the chest and died a few hours later at the Shkodra Hospital.
Meanwhile, Bahri Tafili, Genc Tafili's father, also died. After the event, the authorities arrested Genc, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison, but after 17 years in the cell, Judge Kruja, Enkelejda Hoxha released him on bail.
Admir Tafili is also known as the leader of the 'tritol' group because while he was in prison he ordered the murder of Ibrahim Mani through Kristi Pinë, an associate of justice. In 2010, Admir Tafili, received permission from St. Kolli prison to see his sick mother and in this case escaped. In March 2011, he ambushed the two brothers of Prel Pjetrushi in the village of Grudë in Shkodra. Months later, after a police operation, Tafili was arrested in Tirana.
