A young Albanian arrested today in Greece risks a fine of 50 thousand euros and in the worst case 10 years in prison after torturing a cat.
Torture of animals is a criminal offense in Greece and is punishable by a fine of up to 50 thousand euros up to a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
The Albanian was arrested by the Greek authorities after the publication on social networks of a video where he throws a cat into the sea after seducing him with food on the balcony of a fish tavern in Edipsos.
For their fun he kicks the animal and throws it into the sea. Nobody stops him, everyone laughs. But he forgot that it is now a crime and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 50,000 euros.

The media say that the 30-year-old Albanian was arrested in his apartment. He was identified by a tattoo he was wearing. He has a criminal record for drug cases.
The news of the arrest was announced by the Minister of Civil Defense, Takis Theodorikakos.
"A little while ago, the Greek police arrested a person who kicked and threw a kitten into the sea. Violence against animals is unacceptable. The government has passed a strict law to protect animals from abuse, which is already in force, but it is still a matter of humanity and culture. I am deeply saddened by those who mistreat animals and those who tolerate it. I heartily congratulate those who raised this issue. "The reason now belongs to Greek justice," he wrote on Facebook.
The published video has had numerous reactions in public opinion. The young man himself does not seem to have understood what he did, but he has not repented either. In an Instagram post he says he does not regret what he did.
