The name of Alket Riza, one of the most well-known names in the criminal world in Greece, has been included in the investigation into the murder of a prisoner inside the Domokos prison command building, an event that occurred on February 15, 2026.

Rizai, who has been wanted by authorities since Monday after escaping from prison, is also suspected of being involved in a shooting incident at a beach bar in Anaviso.

According to SKAI television, evidence places Rizai in the area where Antonis Papadatos was shot three times. Although the case remains open, the prison warden has been remanded in custody after being at the scene and giving contradictory statements during questioning.

SKAI publishes footage of the file for the first time

SKAI has published photos from the crime scene for the first time. A Bulgarian prisoner sentenced to life imprisonment is accused of the murder, while the prison warden was also arrested, who, according to the lawyer for the victim's family, gave versions that contradict the evidence.

"From the very beginning, what he stated was completely contrary to the facts that immediately emerged. Within seven minutes, a prisoner left the ward where he was being held and was killed in the administration building," the lawyer said.

Witnesses mention Alket Rizai

Although Alket Rizai denies having been at the place where Papadatos was killed, eyewitnesses claim the opposite.

A prison employee stated:

"At one point I heard shots coming from the old prison guard building and I saw that the first person to come out of there was Alket Rizai."

How did the murder happen?

Security camera footage shows that shortly before he was executed with three bullets to the head, Antonis Papadatos was in the common areas of Pavilion D, where he was talking to other prisoners.

A little later, the Bulgarian prisoner arrived and asked Papadatos to leave the cell and follow him. The two of them walked through the corridors leading to the prison guard's building.

At the same time, according to the cameras, Alket Rizai also headed in the same direction, accompanied by several other prisoners who are described as his "bodyguards".

Papadatos, the Bulgarian prisoner, and the warden were already in the administration building. The cameras also recorded a warm embrace between the warden and Riza.

Then everyone seems to accompany the victim to the old prison guard's building - the only environment where no security cameras were working.

Inside that room, outside the coverage of the cameras, Papadatos was shot first in the back of the head and then with two bullets in the face.

The version of the alleged author

The Bulgarian prisoner, who claimed responsibility for the murder, claims that Papadatos had hidden a revolver in his shorts and attempted to kill the perpetrator.

According to him, he intervened to take the gun, but it accidentally went off, fatally hitting Papadatos in the head.

However, the police and the investigating judge suspect that the event is more like a paid execution than an act of self-sacrifice.

After the shooting, the Bulgarian threw the gun on the floor and surrendered.

On the other hand, the chief guard claims that during the incident he tried to defend himself and did not see what happened, while insisting that Rizai had left a few minutes before the shooting.

His lawyer, Dimitris Gavelas, stated:

"My client was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was faced with a situation he could not have prevented. As for the claim that Rizai was not at the scene, I can only follow what my client states."

Rizai denies involvement

Alket Rizai himself has denied any involvement in the murder.

"I am clean and I am not afraid of anything. I was not inside the old guardhouse at the time the incident occurred. I had no reason to get involved in such a matter, not even for all the money in the world."

However, forensic experts found traces of blood on his shoes and gunpowder residue on his clothes.

According to SKAI, the 47-year-old has not yet been taken as a defendant in this case and continues to have the status of a witness, while the request for the release of the detained perpetrator has been rejected.

Suspicions that he has crossed into Albania

Meanwhile, as the days pass, the scenario is strengthening that Alket Rizai, also known for his close ties with Vasilis Paleokostas, may have crossed into Albania.

According to information received by the Greek Police, the last signal for his location was recorded in Northern Greece, an area from where it is suspected that he may have illegally crossed the border into Albania.

Although authorities emphasize that this is not yet considered a proven fact, it remains the scenario that is gaining more and more weight in the investigations to capture the fugitive.
