The Court of Appeal has upheld the decision to sentence Mario Përlleshaj, the perpetrator of the murder of Martin Cani, to 16 years in prison.

In December 2025, he was found guilty of the criminal offenses of "murder in other aggravating circumstances" against Martin Can and "murder in other aggravating circumstances, attempted" against another minor, who was injured.
