In October 2022, 39-year-old Briken Sanaj was killed in the "Hill of the Sun" in Tirana.

The media in Albania reported that the victim was shot dead from close range by a moving car and the assassination was allegedly carried out for revenge. Regarding this case, the suspect Gjelosh Krasniqi was arrested last night in Peja.

The news of his arrest was confirmed for Express Newspaper by Shkodran Nikçi, spokesperson of the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Peja.

"Last night, the operative managed to arrest a person (with an international arrest warrant) who is suspected of being involved in a murder in Albania last year. By order of the prosecutor, the suspect GJ.K. has been detained for 48 hours, while within the legal term a request for detention will be submitted to him. For further procedures regarding this case, please contact the Ministry of Justice", said Shkodran Nikçi.

The person who is suspected of helping to shelter Krasniqi has also been detained. Before the assassination, Sanaj was locking the car in the garage of the building where he lived and met three familiar people on the sidewalk.

After the wedding in Lezhë was over, he together with his relatives brought the bride to Tirana to the palace where she lived for more than a year.

The moment he got out of the car, he was shot dead from close range by a moving car.

The "Benz" type car used by the perpetrators was found burned after the incident, in Qafë Kashar, while a Kalashnikov type weapon was found inside it. The car had stolen license plates in Tirana, just a few days before the assassination.

The event is suspected to have happened for revenge, since in 2010 the Sanaj family had a conflict with the Kola family due to the harassment of a girl. The conflict escalated and Briken Sanaj's younger brother injured one of the sons of the Kola family.
