A 17-year-old was arrested with a Kalashnikov rifle and three magazines this evening in Vlora.

The young man is suspected of having been attempting to sell the weapon in the city of Vlora, while traveling by taxi on the Fier-Vlora axis, towards Tirana.

Police had previously received information about the taxi in which the young man with the gun was found. A 19-year-old man who is suspected of buying the gun has been declared wanted.

Police announcement:

The Serious Crimes Investigation Sector is finalizing the operation codenamed "The Passenger" to crack down on a case of attempted firearms sales.

A 17-year-old was arrested after being caught red-handed with an automatic firearm, which he was suspected of selling in the city of Vlora.

The 19-year-old suspected of collaborating with the 17-year-old to obtain the firearm has been identified and is wanted.

The automatic firearm and 3 combs were seized.

Following measures to prevent and crack down on criminal activities in the field of illegal possession of weapons, based also on police intelligence, the Serious Crimes Investigation Sector, in cooperation with the Operational Investigation Support Section, organized and finalized the police operation "The Passenger".

During the operation, on the "Fier-Vlora" road axis, a 17-year-old resident of Fier was caught red-handed and put in handcuffs, after during a search of the trunk of a taxi vehicle, which this citizen had taken to travel to Vlora, among his personal belongings, an automatic firearm and two combs were found.

Following the actions in this case, citizen E. Gj., 19 years old, resident of Fier, was declared wanted, as he is suspected of having collaborated with the 17-year-old to obtain the firearm, with the aim of selling it in the city of Vlora.

During the search of the apartment of citizen E. Gj., a gun barrel was found, which was seized as material evidence, along with the firearm (automatic rifle) and the two barrels that the 17-year-old was carrying.

Work continues to capture citizen E. Gj. and fully document the case.

The procedural materials were transferred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Vlora, for further action.
