Vlora is the city hardest hit by the bad weather with strong wind and heavy rains that gripped Albania today.
Mayor Ermal Dredha told the media that more than 30 families have been evacuated as a result of the floods, while calling for help from the Ministry of Defense and the General Directorate of Civil Emergencies.
"The situation continues to remain not what we want because of the rainfall flows that were very dense. The rain lasted for a long time, 2 hours and 30 minutes without stopping, which caused a negative effect on the part of the high water channel that has come out of the bed and all the water has flooded in the middle of the city. We are on the ground to manage the situation, but the situation has been really alarming", said Dredha in a statement to the media.
Meanwhile, Vlora has remained in total darkness as a result of the floods. Currently, in the city of Vlora, the electricity has been cut off and the water supply has also been cut off, while the citizens complain that in these conditions it is impossible for them to pump the water from the flooded houses.
The Operator of the Distribution System also reacted to the situation, explaining that their employees in Vlora acted to avoid any tragedy from contact with the current, as the city was covered by water, thus cutting off some feeders. According to OSSH, this security measure will continue until the normalization of the situation, while understanding is sought from the citizens.
OSSH says that there will be power outages until the checks are completed in every electrical cabin, which is at risk of being flooded.
"As it was predicted, our country has found itself in bad weather conditions, characterized by heavy rainfall and atmospheric discharges. Vlora is the most affected area, where heavy rains have flooded many areas. As a result of the presence of water, in order to avoid further problems in the electricity network, the teams of OSSH Vlorë have taken measures by shutting down some feeders as a safety measure until the situation normalizes. There will be a power outage until the water is removed and the cabins are checked. The standby teams will be on the ground to restore the power as soon as possible" , says the response of the DSO of Vlora.
