Former police officer Fatos Cenaj, who was shot with a gun, has died in hospital after several days in intensive care.

The former officer was shot on Sunday morning, on Casoni Basse Street in Fontaniva, while he was going to work by bicycle.

Initially, the hypothesis was that it was an accidental shooting, perhaps by a resident testing a new weapon. But recent investigations have dismissed this possibility, leading investigators to believe that it was a well-organized ambush.

According to sources close to the investigation, Cenaj was riding his bicycle to a farm where he worked, about two kilometers from his home. It is suspected that a car approached him from behind and through the window, an armed perpetrator shot him at close range. The wound in the ear area is very small and almost invisible, which suggests the use of a high-precision sporting weapon, a typical tool for sophisticated assassinations.

The area where the incident took place, a quiet spot in the middle of the village, provided an ideal setting for an attack and escape without being noticed. No witnesses have been identified so far, while police are analyzing security camera footage from surrounding streets.
