Mirush Kula and Sami Lame

Two Albanians have been convicted by an English court after being detained by police during an anti-drug crackdown on March 24 in Consett.

Mirush Kula and Sami Lame were caught inside a grass house, where 248 cannabis plants were seized. Both were arrested and pleaded guilty. Both Albanians have been convicted of drugs in England and this was the second time they have been caught for the same crime.

Sami Lame was sentenced to 9 months in prison last year for cannabis production and was released in February this year.

Mirush Kula, 36, was also arrested in November 2020 in Luton and found with 122 cannabis plants.

The prosecutor in the case said Mirush Kula arrived in the UK two years ago illegally. At the end of the prison sentence, he may face deportation.

While Sami Lame has applied for asylum he was just released from custody after his first arrest. The prosecutor said that Lame's family had left Albania and lives in Italy, where his wife takes care of Lame's sick mother.

Following his sentencing, Sami Lamen will have to wait for the authorities to respond to his asylum status.
