Robbery, attempted murder, arson, and being part of a criminal organization are just some of the crimes for which the two Albanians who escaped from the Kassavetia rural prisons on Thursday evening have been convicted.
Protothema.gr reports that the two fugitives have been sentenced to many years in prison ( up to life imprisonment ) for multiple robberies, arson and membership in a criminal organization with the aim of committing contract killings.
The two prisoners, both 41 years old, had been held since 2019 in the Agricultural Prisons, in an unfenced area, due to good behavior, while their room was only checked a few times a day by staff.
The fugitives had been given five days off in 2024 and apparently took advantage of their return from their last leave a few days earlier to plan and execute their escape.
Their disappearance, which was discovered at 9:00 PM on Thursday, caused the immediate mobilization of the police as the two fugitives are considered dangerous, due to their past.
Their escape raises serious questions about the security measures in place at the Penitentiary Institution.
