The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, commented on the political situation in the country during the meeting of the DP parliamentary group, accusing the majority of "capturing institutions" and "excluding the opposition from its constitutional role."
In his speech, Berisha said that the opposition is being prevented from exercising its fundamental function of parliamentary control over the government.
"The opposition is deprived of its right and fundamental duty to control the executive and the implementation of the law. Ministers not only refuse interpellations, but also appear before committees, bringing in other representatives who have no legal responsibility," Berisha declared.
According to him, parliament has been transformed into an instrument of the ruling party, while opposition MPs are "denied the rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the regulations."
"The opposition is treated as a vassal of the party-state, with which it can do whatever it wants," Berisha added.
Following his speech, the DP leader placed emphasis on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, accusing her and Prime Minister Edi Rama of "illegal bargaining" in public tenders of large values.
"Albanians saw with documents how Edi Rama and Belinda Balluku make the dirtiest deals at their own expense, with tenders worth 200 million euros for the Llogara tunnel, without respecting any article of the laws of this country," Berisha said.
He added that the company involved in the construction of the Llogara tunnel is the same one being used to build the Vlora airport, alluding to suspicious connections and decision-making outside of legal procedures.
"The same company, the same mechanisms and the same goals. Everything is decided in their visits to Ankara," Berisha said.
