'The dead body of the brother came without a heart', Saimir

Majlinda Sula, the sister of the young Albanian Saimir Sula, who died in a hospital in Spain two years ago, where he had gone for COVID and came out dead and without a heart, is still seeking justice.

In an interview with News 24 , the victim's sister requests that the Albanian state send a note verbale to the Spanish embassy in Tirana, so that the Spanish authorities respond to the two letters of order previously sent by the former Minister of Justice. Etilda Gjonaj and the current minister Ulsi Manja.

She clarified that the authorities have offered a heart that according to the family is not Saimir's, as it was registered a month before the young man died.

Saimir 's case was archived in June, with the claim that the heart was found. The documents for the heart are in April 2020, when Saimir passed away in May.

Hearts are kept in one of these institutions, but not in a hospital. When Saimiri left the hospital, all contact ended. Now we only have a connection with forensic medicine and this institute. These gentlemen claim that the heart is in a box from April, when Saimir passed away in May. It is a ruse by the Spanish authorities to close the case. The case was closed in June of this year, it was archived. We have appealed, but we will need the help of the Albanian authorities ", she said.

According to the sister, we have not given authorization to hold the heart, nor is it claimed by the Spanish authorities that we have signed for the holding of the heart.

"It is not explained why they kept the heart. The heart status is claimed, that Saimir had a previously undiagnosed heart disease, but that heart is not Saimir's, but someone else's.

They want to say this to refute the accusation of organ trafficking. Without any kind of investigation, without any investigation. no questioning of the hospital staff was done and they give us these documents about the heart that do not correspond with Saimir's death. There is no doubt that that heart is not Saimir's, that custody protocol is broken. The heart was separated from Saimir's body for 1 year and 3 months and we didn't know where it was. If we go and take it and do its DNA, tomorrow I cannot claim that this was not Saimir's heart, unlike when Albania does it", said the sister.

She declared that they will never stop.

"I appeal to Mr. Prime Minister. My family claims that after 2 letters of order, the first from former minister Gjonaj and the second from minister Manja, I have not received a response. Mr. Manja asked the Spanish authorities to bring the heart to Albania.

The autopsy and the diagnosis of the absence of the heart was made in Albania and the suspicions of organ trafficking started from Albania. It cannot be dismissed as child's play.

I ask from Mr. Prime Minister, from the Minister of Justice, from Mrs. Olta Xhaçka and the prosecutor of the case, the General Prosecutor, the head of the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana, to take an interest in my brother's case, for organ trafficking, and I ask that a verbal note be sent to the Spanish Embassy, being that the Spanish authorities have not returned an answer and have refused to do DNA on the heart. There is no response of any kind to these 2 order letters. The Albanian state can freely send a verbal note to the Spanish embassy in Tirana. It is disrespectful to our country that the Spanish authorities do not respond to two letters of inquiry.

I don't know if they will react or not, I just know that we will never stop. I appeal to these gentlemen to move, to send the verbal note, to take an interest in organ trafficking, which has been open for two years, no investigation has been done. We will never stop, our family will never stop. Many times I asked for a meeting with Rama, Mr. Prime Minister did not have time to meet me. We only need 3 letters, the DNA, we want to find the heart of the brother. "Trafficking of organs is a serious charge, it cannot be closed like this in the air," said the victim's sister.

How did the event happen?

The event happened on May 8, 2020 at around 11:00 p.m. The pandemic was in its infancy. A young Albanian named Saimir Sula has entered del Mar Hospital (Barcelona) accompanied by his sister Majlinda. The boy had a fever and went for a covid test, which came back negative. They brought him in while his sister stood outside waiting for the results. 18 hours later, the medical team at the hospital called Majlinda to tell her that her brother had died.

Gjendet zemra, mister kujt i përket

A ishte vërtet zemra e humbur e Saimirit?

For this reason, they ask the defense to comply with the request of the Albanian Prosecutor's Office, which has asked for a DNA test to be done on the found heart. However, the Spanish court rejected the request.

"What we want is for them to do the DNA, as requested by Albania. We will not harvest the organ because then traceability and chain of custody will be completely broken. What we ask is that the case is not falsely closed without conducting a simple DNA test," says the sister.

The Spanish media has contacted the Del Mar Hospital, from where they have refused to make any statement. To whom does this heart that was found in the young Albanian belong, how was it found, why was it taken away, are many questions that the sister still does not have an answer to.
