"Now the ghost has a name and a face" .
"Edi" Edmond Dodaj, the 42-year-old Albanian, who has been wanted in Italy for 10 years as he must serve 15 years in prison for association aimed at international drug trafficking, was arrested in Albania, in the city of Kurbini.
Dodaj's arrest on August 24 has echoed in the Italian media. He has dozens of convictions for crimes related to drug trafficking, all committed in Northern Italy, between 2006 and 2008, a real "drug lord" of the Balkans.
Dodaj, according to what was reconstructed by the investigation, was the head of an organization based in Milan, which was responsible for importing tons of cocaine from the Netherlands, which was then sold through drug trafficking networks in central and northern Italy. Along with him, his brothers and cousins, also Albanians, were in the group.
The sentences against "Ed" were never carried out in Italy, because the fugitive had become untraceable since 2013.
However, in recent weeks the carabinieri of the Catturandi section of Milan's investigative unit, led by commander Domenico Rana, have managed to tighten the circle around Dodajt.
Movements at the border and some mistakes of his "collaborators" were fatal for him.
So, piece by piece, the police pieced together the puzzle, and on August 24 INTERPOL managed to arrest the wanted man right in the city overlooking the Adriatic coast, executing the European arrest warrant issued by the execution office of the Milan prosecutor.
Now for "Edin" the extradition request must arrive and the prison doors of Milan, a city that was flooded with cocaine before it became a ghost, must be opened.
