After the Ministry of Justice requested the extradition of Arben Ahmetaj from Switzerland, SPAK is also investigating the former deputy prime minister for money laundering.
During the court hearing on the "Buka" case, the prosecutor in the case, Elvin Gokaj, said that SPAK has come into contact with a sum of money that was transferred from Albania to an EU country. He said that this case is being verified.
" We have come into contact with a large amount of money that has been transferred from Albania to an EU country that is being verified ," said Prosecutor Gokaj.
Media sources indicate that the amount of money that the SPAK prosecutor refers to as having been transferred from Albania to Austria is worth around 3 million euros.
Ahmetaj's lawyer: The prosecutor is saying that if anything comes out of this, we will press charges. If there are other investigations into this matter, the prosecutor was in no hurry to close the investigations. It cannot be a regular process with surprise acts. If there is other evidence, the prosecutor should present it.
Prosecutor: We were forced to file this charge due to the statute of limitations, the case was separated due to the documents that came from Austria.
We recall that Arben Ahmetaj has been on the run since July 2023, while SPAK has issued an arrest warrant for him.
