Ervin Shahini, who escaped from Albania in the terrible year 1997, did not think for a moment that his new life started in South Korea would be disturbed in 2024, bringing him back in front of justice and the law.

In the first days of 2024, Interpol Tirana agents, who are now a specialized unit for tracking and capturing wanted persons, together with their colleagues from Korea, knocked on the door of Shahini's apartment.

The show "FactCheck" learns exclusively that he lived in a neighborhood near the center of Seoul and used an Albanian name and forged documents. In Seoul he had started a new life and also had a wife from Korea.

The search for Shahini, also known as the Taxi Driver Killer, began in 2015 and ended with his arrest in 2024.

But what are Shahini's crimes?

The FactCheck show clarifies the chronology of events dating back 29 years ago: Shahini, already arrested and in custody in South Korea, using cold weapons (knives), killed and injured taxi drivers in Albania. After he took a taxi as a passenger to go to the desired destinations, he stopped the taxi drivers and started stabbing the drivers from behind.

After taking the money, he would kill or injure them, he would get them out of the car, leaving them on the street, and by hijacking the taxi, he continued his criminal activity.

On 15.05.1995, in cooperation with citizens AM and NK, he wounded citizens PB and AA with a knife

On 10.07.1995, he wounded the SH citizen with a knife;

On 27.08.1995, he killed citizen Xh. A.;

On 27.10.1995, he wounded citizen II with a knife; the State Police informed today.

The arrest in the Republic of Korea was carried out as part of the operation "INFRA ATLAS" and "Support" where, as a result of the exchange of police intelligence, he was identified and then transferred to a cell.

Shahini is awaiting the final decision of the Korean authorities, while the practice of his charge, such as the life sentence and the escape from prison, have already been sent to Seoul through the Ministry of Justice.

FactCheck learns that Shahini first left for Greece, then for the USA, and for several years he went to South Korea, where he was arrested.
