An internationally renowned Italian professor has been held in Fier prison for two months due to an accident on August 8 on the Levan - Fier road, Italian media report.
He is Michele D'Angelo, 44 years old, a biology professor at the University of L'Aquila, and a famous global scientist.
This has led to the reaction of a group of Italian MPs, one of whom has complained to President Bajram Begaj. More precisely, MP Luciano D'Alfonso has personally contacted the Albanian head of state to intervene for the professor's return to Italy, something his university colleagues are also requesting.

The incident that occurred on August 8 involved the professor's car and a Mercedes belonging to Albanian citizen ES, who is suspected, according to Italian media, of losing control of the car while speeding.
According to witnesses close to the professor, he was driving at 40 km per hour and found himself in front of another car that was traveling at high speed and could not avoid it.
Albanian authorities have accused the Italian professor of violating traffic rules and "abandoning the vehicle".
Italian media echo the case, saying it could become an international issue.
