You should think twice before taking a taxi, as you can be robbed by the driver. Unlike before when taxi drivers fell prey to robberies from customers, an unusual case has been recorded in Tirana. A 26-year-old taxi driver was discovered by the police for stealing from the customer he had picked up to take to his destination.

Andrea Papa, on Saturday morning, diverted the route with the excuse that he was following the shortest route, but sent the client to an uninhabited road in the Farka area. After stopping the vehicle, according to the police, the taxi driver Papa forcibly took the money that the 20-year-old client had with him and two mobile phones. The taxi driver then dropped the client off who stole it and drove away in his vehicle. It was the injured party himself who reported the case to the police station no. 1, who then arrested the 26-year-old taxi driver. He is now accused of robbery with violence.

This is not the first time that taxi drivers, who work privately but also for companies, have been involved in illegal activities. A few days ago, in a joint operation between Albania and Kosovo to crack down on a criminal arms trafficking group, it was discovered that one of the arrested was using his taxi for this illegal activity.

Another such case was discovered earlier this year in Pogradec, where a taxi driver attempted to smuggle weapons and cannabis to North Macedonia. In the capital, police have also discovered employees of this sector involved in illegal prostitution./  Klan News
