The court hearing at the Special Court for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and 29 other defendants has been postponed to April 27.

At the beginning of the session, Veliaj's lawyer requested that the trial not continue, emphasizing the lack of full notice and his client's right to participate in the process.

On the other hand, the former head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, stated that the defendant was not notified, despite the court order, pointing out the non-implementation by the Prisons Directorate.

Discussions in the session:

Veliaj's lawyer:  First, you must guarantee the right of every defendant to be notified and also the fact that Mr. Veliaj has not expressed his will whether to participate in today's session.

I think the trial cannot continue. Meanwhile, regarding the 24 files that you as a court emphasize are files related to the notification of the indictment for the other defendants, we request every file, because they are defendants in a related proceeding.

Altin Dumani:  Considering the circumstances mentioned, the defendant was not notified, apart from the fact that the court ordered his notification. It turns out that the Prisons Directorate did not implement the court order.

It should also be learned why the Prison Directorate has not implemented the court order, because this is not the first time and the defendant's failure to notify is becoming a reason for postponing the hearing. If you as a court decide to postpone the hearing, we ask you to set a date as soon as possible.
