The General Prosecutor's Office has accepted the request of the Parliamentary group of the DP, who have requested through an official letter to start the verification of the figure of the Mayor of Malësë e Madhe, Tonin Marinaj .

Sources close to the Assembly have provided the letter that the General Prosecutor's Office has sent to the CEC, and for the information of the Assembly of Albania, initiated by the request of 15 democratic deputies.

According to the Democrats, Tonin Marinaj, " is accused by the Italian Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office of being the head of a criminal organization of international drug trafficking ".

In the request, it is claimed that Tonin Marinaj, as a candidate for mayor in the Municipality of Malësi e Madhe, for the local elections on May 14, 2023, contrary to the law, in the self-declaration form did not declare the data related to an investigation and trial against him by the Prosecutor's Office and Court of First Instance in Florence, Italy, for trafficking in narcotics of the marijuana type.

Letter to the CEC:

Fifteen (15) deputies of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Albania, pursuant to article 7, point 1 letter "a" of law no. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", with the request dated 28.06.2024, forwarded by the Administrative Service of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, together with the letter no. 2547 prot., dated 28.06.2024, requested the General Prosecutor's Office to verify the completed data in the Self-Declaration Form. from the subject Tonin Marinaj, mayor of Malësë e Madhe Municipality.

In this request registered, in the General Prosecutor's Office, with no. 860 prot, dated 28.06.2024, it is claimed that the subject Tonin Marinaj as a candidate for mayor in the Municipality of Malësë i Madhe, for the local elections on May 14, 2023, contrary to the law, in the self-declaration form did not declare the data related to:

The investigation within criminal proceedings no. 1615/2010, no. 14109/2010 and no. 15892/2011.10RGNR mod. 21, as well as his trial with the request dated March 29, 2016, by the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of First Instance in Florence, Italy, for committing from 23.5.2010 to 23.7.2010 the trafficking of marijuana-type narcotics.

In reference to article 5, point 4, letter "a" of law no. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", the self-declaration form, for the elected and candidates of the governing bodies local, submitted and administered by the Central Election Commission.

In reference to Article 7, point 1, letter "a" of Law no. 138/2015 "To guarantee the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", the verification of the data declared in the self-declaration form, provided for in Article 5 of this law, is carried out whenever required by 1/10 of deputies, the President of the Assembly, the Prime Minister and the General Prosecutor, for one elected in the municipal or district bodies.

In reference to article 8, points 1 and 4, of law no. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", as well as Chapter III, point 3 letter "c", and Chapter V. point 4, of Decision no. 17/2016 of the Assembly of Albania "On the determination of detailed rules on the implementation of the prohibitions provided for in law no. 138/2015 "To guarantee the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions", the verification of data by the General Prosecutor's Office is required by the body responsible for the administration of the self-declaration form that is in charge of receiving the request for verification , according to this law, in any case if requested by one of the entities that enjoy the right of initiative for the verification of data, according to Article 7, of Law no. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons who are elected, appointed or exercise public functions".

In addition to the above, we are sending you the request for competence dated 28.06.2024, of the fifteen deputies of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Albania, for the verification of the self-declared data, in the self-declaration form, by the self-declaring subject Tonin Marinaj, currently with the function of chairman of the Municipality of Malësi Madhe.
