SHISH records increase in foreign spy activity in Albania

Agents of opposing secret services added their activity over the past year in Albania, where the main activity has also been recorded spreading fake news.

So he declared before the Security Commission, the head of the State Intelligence Service, Helidon Bendo.

"The activity of opposing states/intelligence services has been linked to increasing interbreeding of intelligence activities with those of hybrid nature, such as malignant influenceactivities, propaganda and disinformation, divisive and influential narratives in public perception. These states and services, unfriendly to Albania, use classical and hybrid activities to achieve their goals. In espionage activities, they use a combination of closed and open, conventional (classic) and unconventional methods that include propaganda, disinformation, cyberattacks, gathering sensitive information through interference in computer networks, for cyber espionage purposes, to carry out activities/operations influence information altogether and psychologically," Bendo declared before Deputies.

Regarding the situation in the region during 2021, the SHISH Director underlined:

"The situation in the region is characterized by fragile internal political developments, which have brought governing instability to several states. Interstate disputes are being used by third countries to keep the situation in the region destabilised, with the aim of timely undermining or delaying the integration processes in the EU and NATO of the region's designated countries.
