DECIDE:

1. Approval of the contract between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Albania and BAYKAR MAKINA SAN. VE. YOU C. A.Ş., for the supply of the BAYRAKTAR TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle system, which is attached to this decision.

2. The Ministry of Defense is charged with the implementation of this decision. This decision takes effect immediately.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER Belinda Balluku", it is stated in the decision of the Council of Ministers.

In December last year, in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Minister of Defense, representatives of the Turkish firm 'Bayraktar', the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, the agreement for the provision of unmanned combat aircraft with the well-known Turkish firm was signed in Tirana. Bayraktar'.

Other countries have also expressed interest in Turkish Bayraktar drones, as this tool has shown success in several battlefields, including Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

At least 36 TB2 drones have been purchased by the Ukrainian armed forces.

The TB2 drone was developed in Turkey by Selcuk Bayrakar, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is compared to the American Elon Musk, for the unique military aircraft he has developed and for a presence on social networks, where he is often fierce towards his critics.

Bayraktar, who is the head of technology at the defense company "Bayraktar", married the daughter of the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in 2016, which was witnessed by the prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama.

Bayraktar TB2 can stay in the sky for up to 27 hours and this is powered by a simple propeller engine and it can also fly up to 150 kilometers from its base. This aircraft can also equip four "smart micromunitions" missiles that are accurate enough to destroy armored vehicles from several kilometers away.

TB2 drones have been used by Turkey in what it calls "counter-terrorism" operations against Kurdish militants, but also in the ongoing civil war in Libya. But their devastating impact was seen during the 2020 conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, when TB2 drones were used by Azerbaijan against ethnic Armenian forces.

But this drone is seen as revolutionary due to its relatively cheap cost and easy availability. Large military drones produced by the United States, such as the MQ-9 Reaper, cost tens of millions of dollars, and even countries that can afford such technology are unlikely to be able to afford the aircraft.
