Protest in front of SPAK for the demolition of the National Theatre

The Democratic Party has called a protest in front of the Special Anticorruption Structure. A day ago, the deputy of Reestablishment, Belind Kelliçi, announced the protest for the silence of the Special Prosecutor's Office almost 2.5 years after the collapse of the Theater.

The Alliance for the Protection of the Theater has placed the reports made after the collapse of the National Theater outside the surrounding wall of SPAK.

The investigation into the demolition of the National Theater began after several reports made by the Alliance for the Protection of the Theatre, against several persons, including the Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, as well as the engineers of the Construction Institute who signed the expertise, based on of which the decision was made to demolish the building. The artists claim to have committed the criminal offenses of "corruption" and "abuse of duty".

The demolition of the National Theater on May 17, 2020 was followed by numerous protests by the opposition and part of the artist community. In July 2021, the Constitutional Court suspended the work on the construction of the new theater, after deciding to declare as unconstitutional the special law that the government adopted in 2018, from which the journey to demolish the building began. But the court failed to determine whether the demolition of the theater building was unconstitutional or not.

This is because for the first time, the judges were divided, not reaching the quorum of at least five votes, which enables decision-making. Regarding the Decision of the Municipal Council, the majority of 5 votes was not formed, regarding the jurisdiction of this Court for its review.
