For the third day in a row, residents of the village of Baks-Rrjoll in Velipojë have continued their protest against the construction of a tourist resort in the area, warning of an escalation of the situation with road blockages and a protest in front of the doors of SPAK.

One of the protesting residents declared that the opposition will be "unstoppable" until the issue of properties, which they claim are being robbed to make way for construction, is resolved.

According to him, the project threatens about 80 homes.

The protester leveled strong accusations at the government, comparing Prime Minister Edi Rama to Enver Hoxha and the Minister of Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku, to Themie Thomai.

“We demand the state, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Belinda Balluku who signed it,” he said, also accusing businessman Bashkim Ulaj and a former official named Fatmir Shpellza of being responsible for the situation.

Residents warned that they would escalate the protest by blocking the main road. They also called for a protest the next day in front of the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK), where they demand to be received by its leaders.

"They will be waiting for the people of Rrjoll from 11:00 at the door," the protester said.

Emphasizing that they have legal documents and court decisions for their properties, the residents also called on the Mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci , to take an interest in their plight.

"We are not the people of Israel who have come to occupy anyone's lands. We are a people who have them on paper," he declared.

Regarding the presence of numerous police forces, residents requested that violence not be used against them, assuring that the protest would be peaceful.

However, they reported that the day before, several young people had been arrested by the police.

The protesters are determined not to back down, insisting that they will continue their protests until the authorities hear their voices and offer a solution to the ownership issue.

VoxNews published an investigation into how, on January 15 of this year, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, signed the construction permit for the giant tourist resort in the coastal area, between Rana se Hedhun and Velipoja.

The complex, according to the project, will cover an area of about 146 hectares, one of the largest tourism investments in the country.

But for the residents, this permit does not undo the harsh reality that their land has been privately occupied and the state has turned against them to violently suppress the protest.
