Teachers' protest, Rama meeting with university rectors
Prime Minister Edi Rama

Prime Minister Rama will hold a meeting today with Public and Non-Public Universities to discuss the process of ranking higher education institutions.

Although the new academic year started yesterday, due to their still unfulfilled demands from the government, the lecturers have boycotted classes.

The academics reiterated that the boycott and protests will continue until the government responds to their demands.

The lecturers continue to emphasize that they will not negotiate for their demands since the 30% increase was done precisely as a sign of negotiation, since the value that the lecturers are asking for in total is 50%. So the academics have divided the value 50%, 30% for this year and 20% in the next year.

Teachers' requirements:

-Increase in salaries for lecturers and support staff
-Increase in funding for scientific research
-Reinstatement of salary supplements for 'Occupational health requirements'
-Increase in salary supplements for seniority
-Increase in payment of supplementary workload hours
-Revaluation of the lesson as there is a discount of 50% of the lesson payment as a result of the non-differentiation of the lecture lesson.
- The revision of the tax of 23% on the payment of the supplementary load
- To suspend until 2026 the implementation of point c) of paragraph 3, of Chapter III of VKM No. 112, dated 23.2.2018, for the criteria for receiving the title "Professor" .
- Make transparency on the budget and income of public universities.
