Edi Rama

The head of government, Edi Rama, was present this Tuesday, June 30, in Vlora, where the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Italian maritime industry giant FINCANTIERI, the state-owned company KAYO and the "Pavarësia" Industrial School, for the production of marine vehicles in Pashaliman.

The purpose of this memorandum is to develop professional practices and employment opportunities in the field of construction and the maritime industry.

The first speaker was the head of KAYO, Ardi Veliu. He stated that the strategic partnership will create new opportunities for the development of the military industry and the strengthening of professional capacities, building a stable basis for increased activity.

"A strategic partnership that provides new opportunities for the development of the military industry and not only, building professional capacities. Through this cooperation, we will build a stable basis for the growth of our activity, creating security and continuity in work, for long-term projects that will generate sustainable income and ensure KAYO's role as an important actor in the Albanian industry", said Veliu.

Rama stated that the government will adopt a normative act to increase defense financing, aiming for 2.6% of the state budget, in line with NATO objectives. He emphasized that the beneficiaries will be the structures of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces, as well as all the links that join this growth process.

"Today we are on a day when, after this meeting, the Albanian government will adopt a normative act, among other things, Albania will commit all the necessary funding to achieve the target set by our NATO membership, which brings our defense spending to 2.6% of the total state budget, where the direct beneficiaries are all those who are part of our Ministry of Defense structure, the Armed Forces, but also all those who join this extraordinary growth step by step", said Rama.

He also emphasized that 500 jobs will be created from this partnership, within the framework of the new system being built in the field of defense.

"There are 500 jobs that are being created in this territory, from this partnership and as the general administrator said, there are 500 jobs that require qualified, expert, well-paid people, in this new system that is being built. It must be borne in mind that all those who will be involved in this venture will not simply be people who own a craft, but who will also be viewed from the perspective of the image, because they will be part of the Albanian defense system", he added.

The project aims to increase Albania's military capabilities and create naval assets for both the Albanian Armed Forces and allies.

The investment, which is expected to bring about 500 jobs, will focus on young people and graduates of vocational schools.
