A meeting was held in Elbasan with the winners of the national startup program for 2025 and new applicants for 2026, where innovative projects and promising ideas in the field of technology and the digital economy were presented.
The activity brought into focus the rapid growth of the technology ecosystem in Albania, at a time when the number of companies registered in this sector has reached 3,300, while over 21,000 specialists are employed in the information technology and innovation industry.
Also present at the event was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who praised the rapid development of technology and its impact on creating new opportunities for young Albanians.
In parallel, there has also been a 15% increase in the number of students enrolled in digital technology-related majors, reflecting the growing interest of young people in this sector with high development potential.
During his speech, Rama also highlighted the role of technology in transforming the labor market and creating opportunities for young people to work from Albania for the global market, describing this period as a favorable moment for the country in terms of rapid digital development.
"Today we can freely say what was laughable not long ago, that anyone and everyone among the youngest people in Albania can work in any country in the world without leaving their home, whether it be in Tirana, Elbasan or a remote village. It is enough to have a computer and be connected to the internet, and not only that, but they can work without leaving their home and be paid many times better than they would be paid if they left their country and did a job somewhere abroad for someone else," Rama told the young people.
"Today it is no longer a laughing matter because it is a reality that is rapidly expanding, integrating more and more young women and men into its perimeter, especially young women and men thanks to the fact that technology makes tools available that young women and men understand and master much faster than others."
The Prime Minister added that today, technology has exponentially increased the speed of development.
"If until yesterday the technology itself to generate a new smartphone had to pass 300 days and from one "Apple" to another "Apple" had to wait until next September, technology today is going to the point that what is new at the beginning of the week becomes old at the end of the week. What is an invention at the beginning of the week is no longer an exception at the end of the week and in the conditions when this happens for developing countries like Albania, this is a very big blessing", he said.
"If we were in the era of linear development, we would have a very difficult time imagining transformations and growth that we can imagine today as a real development opportunity. Because if in linear development printing presses were produced, which were initially taken by those who were richer, I mean countries, then they went to those who were poorer and when that generation of production came to those who were poorer, the next generation of production had already come to those who were richer, with technology there is no longer such a difference. With technology it no longer matters what social status you have, and not only where you are geographically, but also what financial means you have. If you have the talent and perseverance and then the spark of an idea that makes a difference, you are there to succeed. Of course, the part where the need to have someone close comes in, and in this case it is the Albanian government, is the part of that initial financing to develop the first steps of the idea."
