An unprecedented decision by the president of the Albanian National Olympic Committee, Fidel Ylli, has caused strong reactions in the pigeon racing community in Albania.

An official letter signed by Fidel Ylli and addressed to the Customs Directorate in Qafë Thane requests the ban on the departure of the "Postal Pigeons 2003" Association outside Albanian territory for the development of international activities.

In the official document, the Albanian National Olympic Committee argues that the Albanian Federation of Pigeon Fanciers, with president Ramazan Gjyla, is the only officially recognized structure for organizing racing pigeon races in Albania, based on the law "On Sports".

According to the letter, the "Pëllumbat e Postës 2003" Association, with administrator Kujtim Bejqa, is conducting similar activities without the authorization of the respective federation. The letter emphasizes that no association can organize national or international sports activities without official approval from the respective federation.

Further, the document claims that this association has continued to leave Albania through border crossings using various means of transport, including a truck with license plate AA158ZL.

For this reason, Fidel Ylli has asked customs authorities not to allow the crossing of the border for vehicles used by the "Postal Pigeons 2003" Association for activities abroad.

This decision affects about 170 athletes, who own hundreds of racing pigeons and have been participating in international sporting activities for years. For their community, this decision is considered a serious blow to an internationally recognized sport and hobby, which has been practiced in Albania for decades.

The issue has opened a wide debate on how state institutions are treating sports communities and whether we are dealing with a dangerous precedent, where an administrative letter can be used to impede the free movement of Albanian athletes at the border.
