Jonada Bledar Avdia, is the little girl who lost her life on the beach of Himara as a result of being hit by the boat which is driven by senior police officer Arjan Tase, head of the police station in Elbasan.
The deceased, originally from Tropoja, had come from England with her family to enjoy a few days of vacation at the Potam beach in Himara, but tragically passed away.
Jonada's loss has shocked the entire public opinion in Albania, but not only. A group of Albanians in New York have expressed solidarity with the pain of the Avdia family. Albanian citizens observed a minute of silence in her memory.
"I thank you for this small but symbolic meeting that we are doing for a girl, who unfortunately lost her life from an attack, after a lot of crime. I want to invite you for a minute of silence in honor of Jonada Avdia," said one of the participants.
Gathered in a city park, they had placed pictures of the little girl on a tree along with the national flag, flowers and candles.
They appealed to the institutions to strengthen security measures on the coast so that such serious events do not happen again.
"I wish we had gathered for something beautiful, not for the loss of the life of a 7-year-old child by the government. I am very shocked as a mother, as a grandmother, especially since this happened in my town of Himara. We are very outraged. There is no such thing, there are no laws. Laws exist only for the people, not for those in government, I hope this organization serves as an initiative for a better Albania".
