The Democratic Union of the Greek Minority in Albania (OMONIA) has issued a statement calling it provocative how the media in our country are covering the Greek-Turkish conflict.
OMONIA writes that the media is taking Turkey's side, after new tensions between Athens and Ankara. It is also written in Omonia's statement that Turkey has deviated from the value of democracy and the culture of European humanity.
OMONIA demands that attention be paid to informing and shaping public opinion in Albania and in the wider area of Albanian speakers.
Among other things, the statement states that Turkey is a problem and not an option for the visions and perspective of the Albanian people as well as all the peoples of the region.
OMONOIA's full statement:
Provocatively, the media in Albania, especially the pro-government ones, electronic, print and online, not only appropriate the information provided by the propaganda apparatus of the Presidency of Turkey regarding the escalation of their aggression against Hellenism, but also show futile zeal in this direction. Attention should be paid during the informing and shaping of public opinion in Albania and in the wider area of Albanian speakers, where they identify with the intrusive Turkish propaganda in Albanian, which both the President of Turkey and his officials, politicians and non-politicians, also use anti-American, anti-NATO and anti-European rhetoric. It is well known that Turkey has finally deviated from the values of parliamentary democracy, from the culture of European humanism and from the rules of international law.
We take advantage of this opportunity to underline that for small states and peoples, respecting the rules of peaceful coexistence is much more essential than the atavistic mentality and behavior of submission to the supposedly powerful. Let the media and a part of the political class, state administration and public officials, instead of the transitory interest of the Turkish propaganda funds, reflect on their responsibilities towards the European perspective, which also provides the necessary cohesion. The opposition to a satellite adaptation in Ankara is the strong local presence of Hellenism in the territory of Albania, as well as the real and true will of the Albanian society, especially the youth. For the most part, such major issues do not suit the interests of fans, but the genuine opinion of thousands of young people from Albania who have been fed with the values of freedom, democracy, equality and equality that Hellenism defends, should be better. Turkey is a problem and not an option for the visions and perspective of the Albanian people as well as all the peoples of the region.
