Clash in the courtroom, Altin Dumani opposes Plarent Ndreca as Veliaj's

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has requested a change of his legal representative, presenting lawyer and former MP Plarent Ndreca as his new defense attorney.

At this Tuesday's session, Veliaj was not present in the courtroom, while he was represented by Ndreca, who requested to take on the role of legal counsel from this phase of the process.

The request was opposed by the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, with the argument that Ndreca was questioned during the preliminary investigations as a person aware of the case, which according to him constitutes an obstacle to legitimizing himself as a defense attorney.

"Plarent Ndreca was questioned in the preliminary investigation phase and we are in conditions where he cannot be legitimized as a defense attorney ," said Altin Dumani.

On the other hand, Ndreca has opposed this position, emphasizing that the statements given in the preliminary phase do not constitute evidence and do not create legal incompatibility for Veliaj's representation. He explained that he was asked about possible acquaintances and secondary circumstances, with no direct connection to the essence of the case.

"We are not in a state of incompatibility. Statements in preliminary investigations do not constitute evidence ," Ndreca declared.

Despite the debate between the parties, the trial panel decided to accept the mayor's request, allowing Plarent Ndreca to be Erion Veliaj's new defense attorney in the remainder of the trial.

Excerpts from the debate in the hall:

Plarent Ndreca: I have a request as a legal obligation. In assessing the law, we are not in the conditions of incompatibility. The data from the preliminary investigation do not constitute evidence. I have been asked about my acquaintances with Veliaj and Xoxa, but also about the company if I have any acquaintances, but it does not result.

I was asked about a photo that was found in Xoxa's offices, but I had no connection. The statements I made are unrelated to this process and do not violate the interest of the trial. We are not in conflict.

Altin Dumani: It is your assessment whether it legitimizes it. Because for us there is no obstacle, but the law must be observed. To avoid the possibility of invalidity or reasonable failure, that was our concern.

Ndreca: That's how I commented on it as a concern. But I clarified that my connections and statements have no mutual interest.
